How to Build Fence Panels
FENCE PANELS ARE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH GATES
FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS:
- Fill a gap
- Brace a gate post to a fence or wall
- Reduce an extra wide gap to a more practical size for a gate
- Allow a gate post to be positioned away from pipes, steps or footings
- Build a removable section of fence for occasional access
- Build short sections of fence
STEP 1: MEASURE
No width clearances are required as fence panels should fit tightly
between the posts.
You may require a clearance under the fence panel depending on the
cladding you choose.
STEP 2: SELECT
HEIGHT
Fence Panels are available in the same 6 height sizes as Gate Frames.
There are some major differences:
- They don't have hinges or a Latch Bar
- They don't require bracing as they are attached to posts at both ends
- Each vertical section will contribute 50 mm to the total width of the panel, not 100 mm as with Gate Frames.
WIDTH
You can purchase a set of three horizontal rails that come with screws such as: H700, H800, H900 or H1000; or
You purchase longer rails up to 2.4 M long which are sold individually without
screws such as:
FPR1.2, FPR2.0 or FPR2.4
STEP 3: ASSEMBLE
ASSEMBLE your frame as follows:
Place one side of frame on firm ground - slide rails on If necessary use mallet or block of wood to BUMP rails on - don't use metal hammer
Bump the other side of frame into place.
Secure frame together with Self Drilling Screws supplied.
STEP 4: CLAD
Finish with your choice of cladding.
- Drill hole in the timber only
- Place self drilling screw in the hole in timber
- Screw directly into the steel frame using electric drill.
